  2.          CUCUG Announces the Ultimate Amiga WWW Search Tool

  4. August  4,  1996  -  The  Champaign-Urbana  Commodore Users Group (CUCUG)
  5. announced today the debut of its new Amiga Internet searching tool dubbed
  6. "Agnes"  available  in conjunction with its popular "Amiga Web Directory"
  7. World  Wide  Web  site  at http://www.cucug.org/amiga.html.  Agnes allows
  8. users  to  search for over one thousand Amiga-oriented Web sites and more
  9. using flexible keyword matching.
  10.  
  11. According  to  CUCUG,  one  of the many major improvements over other Web
  12. searching  utilities  is  that  the  description  data  contained CUCUG's
  13. database  of  Web  sites  is written by humans, not just sampled from the
  14. first  few  lines  of  the site's text.  This reduces the number of false
  15. "hits"  and increases the accuracy of searching according to Kevin Hisel,
  16. CUCUG's  Amiga  webmaster.   Search  results  are  also  much  easier  to
  17. understand and displayed more quickly than other search tools.

  19.  From one page, Amiga WWW surfers can call on Agnes to:
  20.  
  21.   * Search for more than 1,000 Amiga Web sites using data which is far
  22.     more accurate than "crawler" type search tools. Sites are
  23.     regularly checked and updated meaning less "404 Not Found" errors
  24.     and new sites are added daily.
  25.  
  26.   * Search CUCUG's full-text database of Amiga News including press
  27.     releases, product announcements, news items, show reports and
  28.     other Amiga developments.
  29.  
  30.   * Search the entire, full-text archives of all Amiga Report Magazine
  31.     issues released since January of 1995.
  32.  
  33.   * Search the full-text archives of Amiga Product Reviews posted in
  34.     the comp.sys.amiga.reviews Usenet news group. More than 400
  35.     product reviews are housed in CUCUG's huge archive.
  36.  
  37.   * Search all issues of CUCUG's own Status Register user-group
  38.     newsletter which contains news, computer hints and tips, how-tos
  39.     and information about CUCUG.
  40.  
  41.   * As a last resort, there is an option to query all of the above
  42.     areas in one massive search operation. Users should allow extra
  43.     time for this monster search to complete.

  45. "We've  put  together the world's most effective Web search mechanism for
  46. Amiga  fans.   If  it's Amiga and it's on the Web, we're pretty confident
  47. that  Agnes  can  find it," Hisel said, referring to the all-encompassing
  48. capabilities of the new service.
